The Bar Harbor Inn and Spa is looking to hire a friendly, motivated, team player to join our Front Office team in the key role of Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Operator. The PBX operator acts as the telephone operator responsible for managing the daily call volume associated with the hotel business. PBX Operators answer calls, asses the needs of the caller and transfer the call to the appropriate department. (This position is not remote)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Professional handling of telephone calls, greet each guest with a friendly, positive attitude
  • Excellent customer service and phone etiquette
  • Proficient understanding and use of telephone console
  • Understand caller’s needs and accurately transfer caller to correct extension
  • Be able to answer common questions regarding hotel operations
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel’s services, amenities, and hours of operation
  • Maintain a relevant knowledge of local attractions, business locations, and points of interest
  • Greet guests within the giftshop
  • Help keep giftshop clean and organized
  • Ring up and charge guests for giftshop items
  • Understands and adhere to hotel’s and Brand Standards
  • Communicates effectively with all departments regarding operational and reservation updates
  • Comply with guest privacy standards

Skills Required:

Ability to work well with others (i.e. interacts appropriately with guests and staff) Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks safely and efficiently, communicate effectively, ability to learn and adapt to change.

Experience / Education:

Prior customer service experience is preferred. High School diploma and/or equivalent work experience

Performance Measurement:

90 day performance review, annual performance review, attendance, productivity, feedback from others
